Century ride originally designed by John Wheat, so-called the "Urbane" because the route stays entirely within Metro Louisville, Jefferson County. It was billed as a “most civilized event.“

It's not a particularly hilly ride, but there are challenges, largely consisting of navigating a higher level of motorized traffic than most century routes require. There are also perhaps more turns and complexity to the cue sheet than usual. However, as a change from the usual fare, many found the route interesting enough to include on the schedule. Others were frustrated by the poorly maintained bike lanes with glass, gravel and even fiberglass insulation. Despite the travails, I was among those who enjoyed the experience.

There was certainly plenty to see along the route, for example, a ride past the strangely named, “Penile Baptist Church” and “Family Center.” The ride also included a stop at Mike Linnings Restaurant for lunch, specializing in fried fish. It is a popular place to eat amongst the locals. I found myself in parts of Jefferson County that I had never before visited. Considering that I’ve lived near Lousiville for 30 years, that surprised me.
